Urban Development & Housing Department shortly  known as UD&HD at present days and previously known as LSG, was previously been controlled by the Head office located at Gangtok. A Bazaar Officer was posted to Jorethang for looking after the matters related to South & West District. Later on Engineering Cell was also established headed by a Divisional Engineer for South & West District at Jorethang till the year 2003.

The office of Superintending Engineer (S/W) was established at Jorethang in the year 2003 with overall 04 Numbers of officers at the time, with one number of Divisional Engineer (S/W), One Assistant Engineer(S/W), One Bazaar Officer (S/W), headed by Superintending Engineer(S/W).

The Town Planning Cell previously been looked after by the Engineering  Cell has been handed to the ATP after  posting of two Numbers of ATP’s for South & West respectively in the year 2005. All the offices are located at Jorethang, Housing colony.  The office of Joint Secretary who is also the Head of office for South & West District been posted in the year 2008 with addition of one number of Deputy Secretary in the year 2009. The Office of UD&HD, Namchi Sub Division with Three numbers of offices was established after shifting from Jorethang to Namchi in the year 2006.  One extra number of Sub division for Engineering cell was also established at Ravangla in the year 2008.
